چکیده

This study evaluated the effects of aeration (constant aeration, intermittent aeration and a lack of aeration) and hydraulic retention time (HRT) (2, 3 and 4 days) on a continuous process with cell recycling, using chitosan as a natural coagulant for the sedimentation of a C1 mixed culture. This culture was used for the biodegradation of hydrocarbons present in the effluent contaminated with diesel oil and gasoline. The responses monitored included the turbidity removal (TR), total petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH) removal and volatile suspended solids (VSS). Constant aeration and an HRT of 4 days produced the best results for the continuous process, resulting in the highest TPH removals (94% and 75% reductions in the supernatant and reaction tank, respectively) and TR (95%).

Occurrence of crude oil degrading bacteria in gasoline and diesel station soils.

Microbial enumeration and identification were carried out on several oil contaminated soil samples collected from gasoline and diesel stations. Bacteria were the most dominant microbiota and were therefore classified to generic level. Eleven main genera were detected and Corynebacterium was the predominant genus in all the samples. Biochemical characterisation and substrate utilisation showed h...

Bioavailability and bioremediation of diesel fuel-contaminated soil using organic wastes as supplement

Soil and surface water contamination by organic compounds is a common occurrence in most developing countries. This caused harmful effects on the environment and human beings. Bioremediation can be an alternative green technology for remediation of such hydrocarbon-contaminated soil. Bioremediation of soil contaminated with 5% and 10% (w/w) diesel fuel amended with 10% soy cake (SC), potato ski...
